What is the OPT Program?

The Options for Parking and Transportation (OPT) program was developed by Partners for Care in partnership with Halifax Transit to support QEII staff with their commute to work during construction of the Halifax Infirmary Expansion Project.

QEII staff can participate by ‘OPTing’ into one of the options below:

1. Active & Sustainable Transportation

Staff who pledge to use active and/or sustainable transportation—including walking, running, rollerblading, scootering, biking, and carpooling—to and from work at least three times a week receive five free taxi vouchers from Halifax Transit's Guaranteed Ride Home Program to get home from work throughout the year in case of a personal/family emergency or illness, overtime, or if their carpool partner is unavailable. â€‹â€‹â€‹

2. Public Transportation

Halifax Transit EPasses is available to staff at a discounted rate of $25/month, paid for through payroll deductions or monthly Pre-authorized Debit (PAD) payments.
